Gas cards - Gas credit cards

. Gas card affiliated card issues

Gas card
This card is usually backed by a financing arm of the gas company or may be a third party creditor. The primary advantage of the gas card is its higher gas rebate or cash back at the gas pump of its associated stations, typically around 3% to 5% off the pumps price. The drawback is its typically much higher APR when paying over time. Most gas cards have dropped the annual fee for the basic gas card issues and for most people this is the best option if you pay off your balance every month. Some issues have an annual fee for a premium card but would only be beneficial if you cover the annual fee in rebates but still payoff the balance each month.

Gas credit card
Usually backed by Visa or Mastercard, some gas companys offer both gas cards and gas credit cards while some may only offer one or the other. The gas card may offer the same gas rebate as the gas card in the 3% to 5% rebate but the APR is lower using the major credit card providers.
